How to Make a DIY Wavy Standing Mirror Using Expanding Foam

1 Lay the 3 pieces of MDF next to each other and the mirror on top in the center. Pin it Pin it

2 If you want to create a symmetrical wave like me, you will need to do a little more than just draw the wave freehand. Pin it Pin it

3 At this point it is important to take a step back and check that you have a nice regular wave. Pin it Pin it

4 Take the piece of MDF and secure it to a bench before cutting along the line with a jigsaw. Do your best to cut smoothly, but if it's not perfect, don't stress too much because you'll soon cover it with foam. Pin it Pin it

5 Use the scrap piece you just cut and trace the wave onto the other piece of MDF to make sure your wave is exactly symmetrical. Pin it Pin it

7 Once all your pieces are cut out, lay them down and add a line of liquid nails along the inside edges to join them together. Pin it Pin it

8 For extra strength, take 3 pieces of wood and screw them to the back of the frame. Pin it Pin it

9 You can now turn the entire support piece over and glue the mirror, again using liquid nails. The more even the foam application, the better, as it means less waste when shaping the foam. Pin it Pin it

11 Once the foam is hard (I left mine on overnight), it's time to sculpt.
